CBS "Saturday Night Fights": Results

Strikeforce: “Fedor vs. Rogers” Quick Results:

Main event:

Fedor Emelianenko def. Brett Rogers via TKO (strikes) 1:48, Rd. 2

Main card:

Jake Shields def. Jason Miller via unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 49-46)
Gegard Mousasi def. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou via TKO (strikes) 3:43, Rd. 2
Fabricio Werdum def. Antonio Silva via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Oh man, I was one well-timed strike away from scoring my underdog pick and looking like a real hero tonight. Seriously, Silva had Werdum in a world of hurt and nearly finished him early in the first round. In my opinion, Silva could and should have gone in for the kill just a bit more aggressively.

Not only did the other fights work out, but they went pretty close to the way I thought they would: Mousasi scored and fairly early TKO, Shields ground out a decision, and Fedor almost scored a first-round armbar, but settled for the much flashier option-- a highlight reel TKO at the start of the second. You've gotta hand it to Emelianenko, he finds his way into trouble a lot lately, but he always finds a way to win, usually emphatically.

Still, it's a shame about Silva. I wouldn't have picked him unless I thought he had a good chance and he was painfully close to pulling it off. Oh well, there's always next time.

Now I'm off to watch Sengoku 11!
